Por volta das 20:30h desta
terça-feira (24), o Cabo Rodrigues do Corpo de Bombeiros, que estava de folga,
estava passando com o seu carro em frente ao posto de combustíveis, na esquina
das avenidas Rui Barbosa com a Joaquim Nabuco, no bairro Divinópolis em
Caruaru, quando ouviu uma pequena explosão, resolveu estacionar o carro para
ver o que estava acontecendo. Ao descer do veículo, o Bombeiro se deparou com
um verdadeiro cenário de guerra, pois o caminhão tanque que estava abastecendo
o posto, deixou transbordar combustível, e este líquido começou a descer pela
rua Leopoldina, por trás do posto e rapidamente alcançou uma churrasqueira que
estava assando carnes em via pública e no contato do combustível com o fogo,
gerou enormes chamas, que tomaram o caminho inverso e por muito pouco não
atingiram o tanque que estava sendo abastecido, pois o fogo já estava queimando
a mangueira do caminhão tanque e estava prestes a atingir o combustível
armazenado.

Ao ver a tragédia iminente, o Bombeiro, mesmo
percebendo que todos os frentistas do estacionamento haviam se evadido do
local, ele pegou três extintores de incêndio que estavam a mostra, mas para sua
surpresa apenas um deles estava funcionando e mesmo assim, ele tentou evitar a
proporção das chamas e contou com a ajuda de um popular que estava bebendo
próximo, e ambos conseguiram controlar as chamas.
O motorista que estava abastecendo o tanque de
combustível do posto, ao ver o que tinha acabado de provocar, entrou na cabine
do caminhão e rapidamente foi embora. Como vários litros da substância
explosiva transbordaram e foram consumidos pelas chamas, atingiram pelo menos
sete casas da rua Leopoldina e provocaram estragos nas casas e queimaduras em
três pessoas que foram socorridas pelo Samu e levadas para o HRA.
Moradores da rua Leopoldina, estavam
revoltados com a destruição parcial da rua e disseram que vazamentos de
combustíveis deste estabelecimento já aconteceram em outras vezes, eles
informaram que vão procurar o Ministério Público, para responsabilizar o dono
do posto pelo ocorrido e também vão informar o risco que o estabelecimento
oferece a vizinhança.
Vale ressaltar o heroísmo do Cabo Rodrigues do
Corpo de Bombeiros de Caruaru e do popular Edmilson da Silva, que colocaram
suas vidas em risco e evitaram uma enorme tragédia.
